Castle

For those of you who are not CASTLE fans, I urge you to get stuck into it as season 7 comes to an end.

A mystery novel writer who teams up with the NYPD offers audience members so many emotions and story lines that are truly brilliant, you will laugh, cry and bite your nails in suspense in every season.

Episode 21 offers a slight twist to the shows normal procedure, as Richard Castle and his daughter Alexis make their way to London for a book conference, they discover that the air marshal, Alex Ford, has been murdered while on board the plane after finding his body stuffed into a large case in the cargo-hold and his gun is missing. As Castle speaks with the air stewards to try to find the culprit Beckett, Esposito and Ryan are on the ground in New York working on finding him answers to why the Air Marshal would have been killed.

As Castle begins to realise the danger they are in, he worries for Alexis and tries to keep her out of harms way, Beckett convinces Castle that he must lead the investigation and build a time line to help catch the killer. Within this episode we see less of the sarcastic, imaginative Richard Castle and more of the protective father, I love the episodes in which that Nathan Fillion is completely serious, you see the range of emotions and depth he goes to play Castle and those scenes are fantastic.

While trying to establish a window of death, Alexis examines the body with the help of Lanie over Skype to try to find a cause of death. You can see how much Molly Quinn has grown in her role of Alexis, although she still portrays the scared little girl who wants her dad to look after her, she also shows the strong independent woman she has become as she forces Castle to allow her to help.

During Castle’s investigation of the passengers he notices a couple taking photos after looking through the couple’s videos and photos he finds a video Air Marshal Ford watching a man in one of the isles. Castle sends Beckett and the team a picture of his fingerprint which they managed to get from the passengers cup after he disposed of it, and identify him as a man on the no fly list, as they apprehend the man he tells them he is flying to see his sick mother.

After searching in his belongings, and not being able to locate the gun, or the phone that the suspect allegedly saw Ford texting on moments before his death, Castle begins to wonder if it was someone else.

After finding the phone and reading the hostile texts that were sent to Ford minutes before his death Castle and the flight crew realise the killer is still sitting amongst the passengers. Meanwhile on the ground Beckett, Ryan and Esposito look for where the phone was bought and how, only to find that it is an ex employer of the airline and she is on the plane. After Castle identifies her in a clever ruse, he spills wine on her outfit to try to isolate her, as she reaches into her bag they notice the gun. After taking her into custody in the cargo hold they soon discover Marilyn Singer is not the killer but Ford’s girlfriend.

As the team dig deeper they discover that Ford was hired specifically by Victor Dietrich a wealthy German industrialist who wanted Ford to be on the plane to escort a young apprentice to London who was carrying a $13.3 million dollar watch. As Castle, Alexis and the air crew confront the apprentice they realise that someone has switched the real watch with a fake while he was asleep after having his drink spiked, as this is revealed they discover that the killer is flight air hostess Debbie. As she pulls the gun out on Castle and Alexis, she explains why she did it and how killing Ford was an accident, as she gets emotional and upset Alexis calms her down and gets Debbie to pass her the gun.

This final scene is really great, I did not see who the killer was therefore I was already in shock, not only that, but again Molly Quinn shows what a fantastic actress she is by providing a really heart-warming moment as she connects with Debbie.

The episode ends with the release of the other suspects and a shot of Beckett looking at her computer waiting to see if the flight landed safely.
