It seems the casting for SPIDER-MAN’s entrance into the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still in a place of uncertainty. For some time it was rumoured that Asa Butterfield was in a strong position to secure the role of Peter Parker. However it has recently come out that Butterfield may be out of the running.

It had been said for some time that two of the most likely young actors to don the mask were Tom Holland and Asa Butterfield, Matthew Lintz and Charlie Plummer were also rumoured to be in the running. However The Wrap correspondent Jeff Sneider has recently claimed, on MEET THE MOVIE Press that Butterfield is now out of consideration. Sony and Marvel Studios are apparently going back and forward on two actors out of the shortlist, with Marvel in favour of Plummer and Sony liking Holland more.

Plummer has appeared in several episodes of the HBO show: BROADWALK EMPIRE, with Tom Holland putting on a very strong performance in HOW I LIVE NOW. Sony and Marvel really need to come to an agreement on the character fairly soon as the first appearance of SPIDER-MAN in the Marvel shared universe films is set to be in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR. The film has already began shooting so time is of the essence. I have to say, I like that Peter Parker’s first appearance is in Civil War as Spider-Man played a very key role in the events of the Marvel Civil War event in the comics. No doubt his arc will involve his inner conflict on who to side with.

Does he join forces with Cap’ or Stark? Captain America: Civil War including the cameo from whoever takes the role of Peter Parker is set to be released in May 2016.
