Animated films are home to some of the best friendships on screen. Whether they’re best friends from the get go or start out as enemies, we all have our favourite duos. To celebrate RATCHET & CLANK coming out in cinemas April 29th, we take a look at some of the best on screen animated pairings.
Venellope Von Schweetz and Wreck-It Ralph
The pair meet when Ralph accidentally launches himself out of his own game and lands in the kart racing game Sugar Rush, where Venellope lives. They quickly become friends due to them both being the outcasts in each of their games. They both share the common goal of wanting to become a hero so they work together by building a kart so Vanellope can win the race and Ralph can get a medal.
Hiro and Baymax (Big Hero 6)
Baymax is a lovable healthcare companion who was created by Hiro’s brother, Tadashi. Hiro finds Baymax’s presence somewhat annoying at first and tries to get rid of him. However the naïve Baymax is concerned for Hiro’s wellbeing, as that is what he is programmed to feel and follows him around. Baymax ends up saving him and a group of friends from drowning who then go on to form a team of high-tech heroes.
Wall-E and EVE
Despite never actually saying a word to each other (except for each other’s names in a range of inflections) they make the cutest robot couple. Wall-E falls for EVE the moment he lays his robotic eyes on her, and follows her when she returns to her home in Axiom. When WALL-E is electrocuted, EVE takes him back to earth and repairs him, restoring his memory and personality with a kiss.
Ratchet & Clank
Clank is an escaped robot who befriends Ratchet, a Lombax mechanic with dreams of becoming a Galactic Ranger. They become two unlikely heroes as they attempt to stop the alien villain, Chairman Drek, from destroying every planet in the Solana Galaxy.
Buzz and Woody (Toy Story)
When Buzz firsts arrives in Andy’s bedroom, Woody’s status as Andy’s favourite toy is threatened and the two toys do not get along. However when they have to work together to escape from the vicious kid’s house next door, they soon realise they are not so different from each other. The team up and manage to escape, and continue to come to each other’s rescue throughout the films. Â
Ash and Pikachu (Pokémon)
Pikachu was given to Ash by Professor Oak as his starter Pokémon because he showed up late to his class. Originally Pikachu was not fond of Ash and would disobey him and run away until Ash attempted to save Pikachu and proved he would sacrifice himself for him. From then on the two become inseparable and a strong friendship formed.
