Ava DuVernay Confirms She’d Be Up For Directing A Marvel ‘Origins’ Movie…

After her incredible success with Martin Luther King biopic SELMA, female director Ava DuVernay has spoken out what projects she’d be happy to take on and it looks like a Marvel film could be one of them.

Speaking to HitFix, DuVernay admitted she knows little about Marvel and it’s superhero universe, but went on to confirm that if Marvel called with a project offer, she’d be up for taking it on, wanting particularly to take on an origins story:

“I’m not a big comic book fan, but I know that I love to deconstruct heroes, deconstruct myths. I probably would want to do some kind of origin story, where you get to the core of it, before they get the powers. I don’t know about Marvel, but I know I love to tell all kinds of stories, so I don’t say no to anything; everything’s possible.”

With Marvel releasing an upcoming solo female comic book movie, MS. MARVEL, there’s a good chance that they’ll look at DuVernay to direct. Why not, right? Her skill at creating immense narrative drive while delving into character purpose was what made SELMA so utterly captivating, why not evolve that to a Marvel movie?

We certainly hope so see DuVernay taking on role as director for any Marvel project, but in the mean time, you can check out SELMA in theatres right now!
