A Nightmare On Elm Street

Remember that NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET reboot that happened all the way back in 2010? Produced by Michael Bay (yes, really), it starred Jackie Earl Hayley, Rooney Mara (yes, really!), Kellan Lutz and Katie Cassidy and slightly changed the overall message and tone of the original film, implying that Freddy Kruger was actually a child molester and not just a evil spirit hell bent on revenge for his murder.

If you do remember this reboot, then you’re probably not the target demographic for the newly announced reboot of the reboot of the horror classic A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET.

New Line Cinema have announced that a new reboot is in full swing, having announced that ORPHAN screenwriter David Leslie Johnson will write the script, while Toby Emmerich, Walter Hamada and Dave Neustadter will produce.

Early reports state that this new adaptation of the original 1984 slasher classic will completely ignore the 2010’s reboot and will look to introduce new audiences to the twisted world of Freddy Kruger.

For those who are unaware of the story of A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, the premise is that a bunch of teenagers dreams are haunted by the creepy and disfigured form of Freddy Krueger, who has the supernatural ability to kill you in your dreams and in reality. As each teenager is picked off one by one, the remaining few must try and figure out how to defeat Kruger’s never ending tirade of horror. Originally directed by Wes Craven, the original is a horror classic that has spooked generations since its original release back in 1984.

This may seem to be a hasty turnaround for another horror reboot to take place, but in today’s modern movie industry, where nothing can really stay untouched for a period longer than five years, this isn’t exactly surprising as the name NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET still holds an iconic and recognisable brand that people will know and pay good money to see.

I’m just hoping that Johnny Depp, who starred in the original Nightmare, takes over the role of Freddy Kruger.
