Walt Disney Studios have confirmed today that they are working with director Jon Favreau  (THE JUNGLE BOOK, CHEF, The IRON MAN franchise) to bring a live action remake of THE LION KING to the big screen.
The press release, which was issued earlier today, confirms that the remake is currently ‘on the fast track to production‘, and will follow the ‘technologically groundbreaking‘ success of Disney’s 2016 remake of THE JUNGLE BOOK–which earned over $900 million worldwide.
This will be the fifth Disney movie remake by Walt Disney Studios, following MALEFICENT, CINDERELLA, THE JUNGLE BOOK, and the upcoming BEAUTY AND THE BEAST.
Jon Favreau has since further confirmed this project via a tweet.

THE LION KING was originally released in 1994, and won multiple Academy Awards for its original music.
