No surprises here, ladies and gentlemen – The Barbican theatre have announced they have sold their entire allocation of tickets for Hamlet starring Benedict Cumberbatch in just over seven hours.

Benedict Cumberbatch Hamlet
Benedict Cumberbatch’s Hamlet sells out within hours

Twelve months from now, the curtain will rise in August 2015 for the much-awaited HAMLET production, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and such is the demand to see the Sherlock star, more than 30,000 fans were already queuing online when the tickets went on sale at 10 o’clock, Monday morning.  Unfortunately for many fans who were desperately hoping to purchase a ticket, by 17:25, every ticket had sold, despite the play having a long run between 5th August and 31st October 2015.

The Barbican had already sold some early release tickets for those who had become friends of the theatre (we can imagine their friendship group suddenly grew!) whilst the general release tickets, which cost between £30 and £62.50, sold within an impressive seven hours.

There will be no chance for ticket touts to sell on tickets privately or on other websites as identification will be required when attending the performances.

If you lost out on a ticket, don’t give up just yet, as there will be one hundred £10 tickets kept back for purchase on the morning of performances.

Keep an eye out on their social media feeds such as twitter (@BarbicanCentre) and via the Barbican’s special ticket site hamlet.barbican.org.uk.
