After a hugely successful online event, which encompassed several premieres, a tremendously diverse group of short films, panels and a ‘Virtual Village’ which simulated the City of Paris, Festival Director Jenna Suru sat down with writer Jeff Arch, the man behind the hugely successful 1993 blockbuster SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE and the team behind the recipient of five Paris Festival awards, HAB / CREAM.

Watch the interview here:

SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE has become one of the best loved romantic comedies of all time since its’ original release back in 1993, the tale of grieving widower and father Sam Baldwin (Tom Hanks), whose son Jonah (Ross Malinger) calls a radio station to help his father find a new wife. Listening whilst driving on Christmas Eve is Annie Reed (Meg Ryan), who becomes fascinated and subsequently infatuated with Sam’s story, even though she is engaged to Walter (Bill Pullman). The screenplay was nominated for an Academy Award.

HAB / CREAM is the tale of Dora (Vica Kerekes) a lonely-heart pastry shop owner whose life has been turned upside down with incredible debt, but decides to participate in a weekend retreat, using a man and a neighbor’s boy to pose as her husband and son to try and win a prize fund to keep her shop going. The film proved to be one of the big winners at the 2021 Edition of the Paris International Film Festival, not only in terms of awards, but also with the online audience that viewed it over the course of the Festival, which took place between 4th and 14th February 2021

Festival Director Suru highlights her love of Paris and St. Tropez in her debut period drama L’AGE D’OR / THE GOLDEN AGE, which received its’ London Premiere – and was the Opening Night winner – at the London Independent Film Festival 2020 at the Genesis Cinema in Mile End, London. A period drama set in 1967 Paris, it is a celebration and reflection on the power and voice of artists.
