The true values of faith of love are explored in writer/director PJ Palmer’s rural drama NORTH STAR.

Up on the American-Canadian border, married same-sex couple James (Colman Domingo) and ailing rancher Craig (Malcolm Gets) are coming to terms with Craig’s increasing deterioration in life. Craig’s sister Erin (Audrey Wasilewski) arrives bearing good food and a bit of moral support, but the seemingly idyllic haven and the perfect idea of a loving home are about to be shattered by home truths elsewhere.

On TV, Craig senses some importance and moral value as he watches preacher Dr. Owen Broderick (Kevin Bacon) attempt to get across the good name of the Lord, but there is a far deeper passion laying dormant within Craig’s own physical challenges….

Palmer’s level-handed direction help elevate NORTH STAR in a yarn that explores similar ground in Ang Lee’s BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN in a movie that cuts deep to the heart of what family values at their darkest hour truly mean. Bacon’s brief but effective television presence should give the film added vibe to help build festival word-of-mouth.
