Fans of anthology horror will certain want to check in with the next instalment of the Horror Collective’s ETHERIA – SEASON II

Having not seen the first episodes of this series, it is of course impossible to make a comparison, but based on what I have seen here, if like me you are the same, then SEASON I should be a must.

Celebrating the horror genre, The Horror Collective have really raised the bar with this anthology of short-form horror tales.

ETHERIA – SEASON II shocks and awes viewers with new horror, science-fiction and thriller episodes directed by women featuring killer strippers, time travelling lovers, vengeful girlfriends, vigilante sex workers and demented wrestlers. Universally praised for their innovative approach to genre, these filmmakers defy expectations and challenge beliefs about women directors. Featured actors include Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby), Javier Godino (Deception), Anne Ramsay (Bombshell),  and Emme Rylan (Guiding Light).

Film And TV Now were given access to the following episodes:

SLUT, written and directed by Chloe Okuno, is the tale of a geeky brunette girl who lives with her invalid grandmother in a rural community and finds herself the focus of an out-ot-towner who has a thing for ‘the chase’ of beautiful women whilst hiding a dark secret.

SHEILA SCORNED, directed by Mara Tasker, is the tale of a feisty and ultra-violent stripper who messes with and then gets messed up by the associates of a man she kills in order to meet the head honcho of an underworld gang.

GÖDEL, INCOMPLETE, written and directed by Martha Goddard, is a time-travel drama, in which a young female scientists studies Kurt Godel’s theory about time travel – and gets a chance to meet him.

SHEVENGE, directed by Amber Benson, focuses on female empowerment in a darkly-comic noir about three women fantasising about how they can get revenge on their oppressive other halves.

COWBOY KILL CLUB, written and directed by Gabrielle Lim and Jessica Parsons, goes into AUDITION / RE-ANIMATOR territory in the realms of a Bangkok underground sleaze club where something awaits in a forbidden basement for one of the server girls.

CARVED, directed by Mary C. Russell, is the tale of an alien form taking the presence of several of its’ victims, moving from body to body as it gets repeatedly killed.

EL GIGANTE, directed by Gigi Saul Guerrero and Luke Bramley, is the story of a Mexican family out to make their way to the US border, but even making an illicit payment takes them to a place they don’t want to be….

ZONE 2, directed by Anna Elizabeth James, is the tale of a mother and her disabled child in a seemingly post-apocalyptic world, but all is not what it seems….

WITCHES, directed by Michelle Steffes, focuses on three seemingly competent witches who somehow have a ‘spell’ of disagreement…

DE NOCHE Y DE PRONTO – SUDDENLY, ONE NIGHT , directed by Arantxa Echevarria, is a subtitled Gothic horror in which a young woman helps a neighbour in trouble, only to find trouble awaits regardless….

It’s an mix of imagination and ingenuity and provides some memorable horror moments that subvert expectations of many decades – and thoroughly enjoyable for all that. Hope springs eternal..
