Beetlejuice

Its commonly accepted that one of  Tim Burton’s best films is the family-friendly spook-tacular offering that is BEETLEJUICE. Thanks to one of its original stars letting slip some information, it appears that the long talked about sequel, amply titled BEETLEJUICE 2, is indeed happening.

During an Interview on Late Night With Seth Myers, promoting her new HBO miniseries SHOW ME A HERO, Winona Ryder, who played the gothic and dower Lydia Deetz in Burton’s 1988 gothic classic, dropped the news that many fans have been waiting to hear for quite some time now.

“I think I can confirm it. It was very hush-hush top secret… but then [Tim Burton] was doing some press for Big Eyes and he did an on-camera interview and he said ‘Oh yeah we’re doing it, and Winona’s going to be in it’ … if he said it, I can say it.”

Talks surrounding a sequel to BEETLEJUICE have been taking place since 1988 with a script already written called Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian which was later dropped. With both Burton and Michael Keaton dropping in and out of the project at various stages, however during the press tour for last year’s BIG EYES and the Oscar winning BIRDMAN both Keaton and Burton seemed very positive about the possibility of a sequel.

Burton, in particular has expressed praise for Keaton’s iconic performance as the perverted and demented ghoul and an interest in returning to the world of the recently deceased.

“Theres only one Beetlejuice, and that’s Michael. There is a script, and I would love to work with him again. I think there is now a better chance than ever… I miss that character.”

So, are we another step closer to a sequel? As soon as any more Beetlejuice breaks news breaks we’ll be sure to let you know.
