Where 's Wally?

Hollywood have achieved the impossible and found Wally, just in time for a movie adaptation.

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are attached to adapt Mark Handford’s WHERE’S WALLY? (known as Where’s Waldo? in the US) series of children’s books for the big screen.

Whilst, WHERE’S WALLY? movies have been trapped in development hell, passed from studio to studio before landing at MGM, Goldberg and Rogen have collaborated on a number of movies, including: THE INTERVIEW, PINEAPPLE EXPRESS and THIS IS THE END; and are also working on BAD NEIGHBOURS 2 and SAUSAGE PARTY.

Mark Handford’s Where’s Wally? books focus on the readers’ attempts to find the uniquely dressed protagonist-in his red and white striped jumpers, plus bobble hat- and his friends in various locales. Always avoiding the eye of wannabe Poirot’s.

Despite never making it to the silver acreen, Wally has appeared in: spin-off books, a TV show, games, and a comic strip.

An early idea for a WHERE’S WALLY? movie placed time travel at the fore, with Wally finding himself stranded years apart from his girlfriend, Wilma. Which would make Wally the second most fashionable time traveller, after a popular bow-tie wearing Time Lord.

The movie could merge the concept of that intial idea with those of the TV show. Wally being sent on missions across time and space, to alternate worlds by Wizard Whitebeard. Before finding himself unable to get home, and facing his arch-enemy Odlaw (evil Wally in yellow and black striped clothing, with added moustache) as he tries to steal the hero’s magic walking stick. He could even find other forever missing persons along the way, like Lord Lucan or Nemo.

If a movie goes ahead, and is successful it’ll likely spawn a never-endind franchise with sequels having increasingly worse titles. It’ll start with Where’s Wally?  before progressing to: Where’s Wally Now?, Where the heck is Wally? and We Still Can’t Find Wally! Forget Him!.

The release date for WHERE’S WALLY? IS to be announced. BAD NEIGHBOURS 2 will debut in April and SAUSAGE PARTY in June.
