Jem

Its not just boys toys from the 1980’s that are getting the big screen treatment. Move over G.I Joe and Transformers, it’s time for Jem And The Holograms to take over.

Universal Studios have just released their second trailer to the upcoming teen drama, which is due to be released in December.

You can watch the trailer below. However this trailer is pretty spoiler heavy to the story beats of the film so be warned.

JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS was a toy line/ Saturday morning cartoon back in the 1980’s and was a cultural sensation in America, becoming one of the countries hottest selling toy lines of the decade.

The film appears to be detracting from the cartoon were Jem was an alter ego of Jerrica Benton a music executive and manager of Starlight Music, who struggled to keep her secret life as one of the worlds best rock stars hidden from those around her.

The film adaptation appears to be going against the target audience, aiming towards the Youtube generation, turning Jem’s story from one of a woman trying to juggle between two worlds into a coming of age drama.

It tells the story of Jerrica (Aubrey Peeples) who is going through depression over her father’s death. In an attempt to cheer her up, Jerrica’s sisters (Stefanie Scott, Hayley Kiyoko and Aurora Perrineau) post a video online of themselves along with Jerrica performing together as Jem And The Holograms, which instantly goes viral. While all of the worlds media are trying to figure out who Jem really is, Jerrica is hesitant of the spotlight, she puts aside her worries for the sake of her family.
