A Broadway classic that has delighted audiences for generations is coming to the big screen with a new, contemporary vision in Columbia Pictures’ comedy, ANNIE.
To celebrate its impending arrival, four clips have been released including a big song and dance number with Annie herself, Quvenzhané Wallis and Rose Byrne in Smart House. The clips also introduce us to Miss Hannigan (Cameron Diaz), Will Stacks (Jamie Foxx) and the shrewd and scheming Guy (Bobby Cannavale).
Like the classic 1977 musical, the new adaptation is a modern telling that captures the magic of the classic characters and original show that won seven Tony Awards. The film centres on 11-year-old little orphan Annie (Quvenzhane Wallis), who has a chance encounter with wealthy businessman Benjamin Stacks (Jamie Foxx), an update on the Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks character. Turns out Benjamin, who’s running for mayor, needs a feel-good story to boost his stock; that’s where Annie comes in. Meanwhile, Cameron Diaz takes on the mean-spirited orphanage owner Miss Hannigan.
Will Gluck directed the feature, which is produced by Jay Z and Will Smith.
