Joe Manganiello

With the impressive cast list David Ayer’s upcoming SUICIDE SQUAD is racking up, you’d think that the well-known names have all been announced. However, there seems to be more recognisable faces that could be joining the 2016 film’s roster after all, as yet another link has been revealed!

Credible rumours of late have been stating that the latest actor who could be mixing in with the likes of Margot Robbie, Jared Leto and Will Smith (all confirmed in the movie as playing Harley Quinn, The Joker and Deadshot respectively), is TRUE BLOOD’s Joe Manganiello.

Intriguingly and more importantly encouragingly, the MAGIC MIKE co-star has got buzz surrounding him about who he would be playing as well! Manganiello, when the deal is done so to speak, would be cast as Deathstroke, a lethally modified mercenary and assassin who is a main antagonist for DC Comics’ good guys Batman and also, Green Arrow.

Manganiello is no stranger to comic-based movies after his brief cameo as Peter Parker’s bully Flash Thompson,in Sam Raimi‘s SPIDERMAN way back in 2002, but it seems as if he is crossing over from Marvel to join DC next year.

When the whole movie features supervillains, it is hard to know which characters will be the hero-type characters and which will be the opposite, so Deathstroke’s involvement in the piece is still very much up in the air. That’s if SUICIDE SQUAD even follows these typical fantasy formats!

For those unfamiliar with the concept of the movie, Suicide Squad in the comic book universe, follows the story of a secret agency that employs imprisoned villains to carry out dangerous government-ordered missions in return for more lenient convictions for their past crimes With this information known, will Deathstroke be part of the squad itself or a more sidelined character?

It has been suggested that Deathstroke could act merely as a bodyguard for Amanda Waller, a woman whose main purpose to oversee the villains in their tasks and keep everybody in line. Even if this is true, and Manganiello only has a few scenes as Deathstroke, does these mean DC are setting his character up for future franchises? We’ll just have to wait and see.
