Here is some news that can “Take My Breath Away” – TOP GUN 2 is happening and we will finally have a sequel.
It seems to have been the popular trend of late to reboot films, create sequels and even prequels and today another has been confirmed and for those of you (like me) who love TOP GUN, this news may have created a happy Monday indeed.
Rumours have been floating around about TOP GUN 2 for years and many have discussed the possibility of there being a follow up to the 1986 original film and now we have the confirmation courtesy of Collider who have reported that Skydance CEO David Ellison has confirmed that the project is in development and revealed its plot details at a TERMINATOR GENISYS press junket in Berlin:
“Justin Marks is writing the screenplay right now,” Ellison said.
“He has a phenomenal take to really update that world for what fighter pilots in the Navy has turned into today.” He added, “It is very much a world we live in today where it’s drone technology and fifth generation fighters. It’s really exploring the end of an era of dogfighting and fighter pilots and what that culture is today.”
Perhaps the most exciting piece of information coming from the confirmation is that it is very likely Tom Cruise will reprise his role as the infamous Maverick:
“There is an amazing role for Maverick in the movie, and there is no ‘Top Gun’ without Maverick, and it is going to be Maverick playing Maverick,” Ellison said.
Excuse us whilst we clap our hands and do a happy dance in celebration. This will certainly be an interesting topic to mention to Cruise during his press tour for MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – ROGUE NATION.
