Tom Hiddleston is possibly most well known for his role of Loki in THOR and THE AVENGERS as part of the Marvel franchise,  but aside from his fantastic acting capabilities onscreen and onstage (Hiddleston received rave reviews for his role in CORIOLANUS at Donmar Warehouse in London), he is also known for being a gentleman off camera too.

The British actor showed just how down to earth he is and what a gratuitous chap he has remained after AVENGERS director and writer, Joss Whedon, revealed that Hiddleston wrote him an endearing thank you letter explaining how impressed he was with his character Loki’s role.

The letter will feature in the upcoming book Joss Whedon: The Biography and the beautifully written letter also shows how impressive the actor is at penning his emotions.

In a rather lengthy letter, Tom described his part as ‘grand and epic and majestic and poetic and lyrical and wicked and rich and badass and might possibly be the most gloriously fun part I’ve ever stared down the barrel of playing.’

That is quite a lot of adjectives used there, Mr Hiddleston! Then again, Loki is known for being a beautifully complicated, tragic character.

Hiddleston’s role as Loki helped to catapult the Brit to movie stardom in what turned out to be one of the highest-grossing movies of all time making more than $1.5 billion at the box office.

Upon receiving the script for the first time, Hiddleston compared himself to Charlie Bucket, searching for a golden ticket in Willy Wonka’s chocolate bars, as he enthusiastically searched through the script for Loki’s name.  Aww, how cute!

The director did not just receive an email of gratitude from THE WAR HORSE star, but also a ‘transatlantic shout-out and fist-bump.’

Whedon and Hiddleston enjoyed working together during the making of The Avengers.

Despite the length of his eloquent and heartfelt letter, Whedon’s response was somewhat shorter – but sentimental all the same:

“Tom, this is one of those emails you keep forever. Thanks so much. It’s more articulate (and possibly longer) than the script. I couldn’t be more pleased at your reaction…”
