Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie mark their return to TV with a new BBC production of John le Carre’s spy thriller.

The two British actors are set to join forces for a BBC TV production.

Yes, it is true, Tom Hiddleston is one of the busiest actors at the moment – and he doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hiddleston will be teaming up with Hugh Laurie in a new television programme.

The two Brits are joining forces in a limited-series adaptation of John le Carre’s 1993 espionage thriller, THE NIGHT MANAGER. BBC will air the series in the U.K. while Ink Factory (A MOST WANTED MAN) will produce. The adaptation is set to be penned by HANNA scribe David Farr, who has also scripted the BBC’s popular espionage TV series, SPOOKS.

THE NIGHT MANAGER tells the story of Jonathan Pine (who will be played by Hiddleston), a former British soldier turned night auditor for a luxury hotel. He meets a French-Arab woman named Sophie, who gives him information on Richard Onslow Roper (Laurie), a black market dealer who specializes in weapons, to turn over to British intelligence. Unfortunately, her betrayal comes at a cost – her life. Pine becomes a spy with intelligence operatives in order to expose Roper and his deadly group and avenge Sophie’s death.

For Hiddleston, who is famously known for this role as Loki in THOR, this will not be his first venture into TV.  The 33-year-old starred in the extremely successful BBC Two series THE HOLLOW CROWN and in other popular programmes such as WALLANDER.

The in-demand Tom Hiddleston has had a busy 12 months after filming in Canada for Guillermo del Toro‘s CRIMSON PEAK, he then went to Belfast to shoot Ben Wheatley‘s HIGH RISE and is currently filming the Hank Williams biopic I SAW THE LIGHT.  If that isn’t enough to tire the man out, he has also been cast in SKULL ISLAND, the follow-up to the Peter Jackson-directed KING KONG remake that was released in 2005, which is expected to be in production in 2015.  Has this man ever heard of a day off? We don’t know how he does it!

The equally busy Laurie ended his eight-year Emmy-nominated run on HOUSE and the production of THE NIGHT MANAGER will mark his return to television.

THE NIGHT MANAGER is the latest in a series of TV adaptations of his work for le Carre. Having already enjoyed success with TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY, A PERFECT SPY, A MURDER OF QUALITY to name but a few, he can now add another one to his list of accolades – and it sounds brilliant.  We can’t wait!
