Tom Hardy

Tom Hardy’s gruelling escapades for THE REVENANT and MAD MAX: FURY Road have been recognised at The Oscars.

We are in the midst of the awards seasons and that is all the media and people within the industry have been talking about, as those who have worked hard on their nominated films either as cast, crew or creators will have a moment to enjoy how their work is appreciated – and Tom Hardy will be hoping his projects certainly are.

There is no denying that the Oscars has thrown up controversy again this year with its lack of diversity for those nominated and this has been a rather big talking point too and rightly so. Some actors have fared well throughout the race to the Oscars with multiple nominations at different events and walking away the winner on numerous occasions (yes, we are looking at you Leonardo DiCaprio and Brie Larson for your superb performances) and then there are others who have appeared as a nominee, which was rather unexpected – Tom Hardy.

The British actor was never a stand-out contender for a nomination in the Best Supporting Actor category, but low-and-behold, when the nominations were announced, Tom Hardy was indeed mentioned in the aforementioned category and is now in the race to win his first-ever Oscar for his role alongside his friend Leonardo DiCaprio in THE REVENANT – and nobody was more shocked than he was at hearing the news, especially as he was notified during a rather awkward moment on set filming a TV series, TABOO. Hardy describes the unbelievable moment in the red carpet interview below at the premiere of THE REVENANT:

THE REVENANT has received worldwide critical acclaim for its superb cinematography and stunning performances by the cast, resulting in the blockbuster being the most nominated film of the 2016 Oscar race. The film has garnered great success at the Golden Globes, Screen Actor Guild Awards and is expected to dominate at this week’s BAFTA awards in London. Alejandro González Iñárritu grim tale of snowy revenge also scored big in the technical categories as well as landing nominations in the big categories of Best Supporting Actor (Hardy), Best Actor (DiCaprio), Best Director (González Iñárritu), and Best Picture.

There is no denying that THE REVENANT was technically difficult to shoot for cinematographer Emmanuel “Chivo” Lubezki and the extremes he, DiCaprio and the whole cast and crew went through in order for us to enjoy such visual splendour, so it is good to see that Hardy’s performance has also been recognised as he was also out there in the cold, running in the snow and experiencing such extremes.

Hardy has a knack of recognising scripts with great potential as he delivered another outstanding performance in 2015’s blockbuster, MAD MAX: FURY ROAD. The actor seems to be a glutton for punishment as in that film, he also had to weather tough surroundings – except this time, they were hot, desert conditions which were equally punishing on the body.

All of the blood, sweat and tears have certainly been worth it for him, as FURY ROAD has also bagged 10 nominations at the Oscars and with THE REVENANT and MAD MAX combined, the two films have accumulated an astonishing 22 Academy Award nominations. Participating in those films has certainly catapulted the star even more to the forefront and working on the two biggest films of the year has shown his talent for recognising what films people want to see and their potential.

2015 was a big year for the Oscar nominee, as he also starred in LEGEND, where he was portraying both twin brothers – the well known London gangsters, The Krays and that was certainly not a technically easy shoot either with Hardy playing both Ronnie and Reggie. In the red carpet video below, the actor discusses his role at the European premiere:

In fact over the years, the talented actor has continued to extend his acting CV rather impressively and has delivered some great performances in other films including CHILD 44, WARRIOR and INCEPTION, which was his breakthrough role back in 2010 and there seems to be no stopping him. All eyes will now be planted on the actor to see what he does next and how intriguing his next role will be. He has plunged himself into technically challenging shoots in the snow and desert, what could be next? The sea? Space?! Either way, there will no doubt be an influx of scripts being sent his way as he has shown his willingness to throw himself into anything and everything in order to deliver a perfect performance and dominating Hollywood is certainly within his grasp should he choose it.

THE REVENANT star is currently in the UK shooting a mini TV series entitled TABOO, which seems like it may not be quite as challenging to shoot as his previous credentials and is expected to air late 2016/early 2017.

For Hardy, 2015 was certainly a big year for him professionally after starring in two of the most gruelling films of the year, which have now been recognised in a big way during the awards season. Will he end up walking away with the Academy Award? We don’t have long to wait until we find out, but either way, take a bow Tom Hardy, you really have come up trumps with your choices and performances and we’re looking forward to seeing a whole lot more from you on the big screen in the future.
