The Lost Boys

It’s time to sleep all day. Party all night. Never grow old. Never die. Have fun being a vampire. The Lost Boys are back.

‘The Lost Boys’, the cult-hit horror-comedy directed by Joel Schumacher (when he could make watchable movies pre-‘Batman and Robin’) is set to be adapted as a TV series by ‘Veronica Mars’ and’ iZombie’ creator, Rob Thomas.

Released in 1987, ‘The Lost Boys’ follows brothers Michael and Sam Emerson, as they arrive in Santa Carla. Michael becomes involved with a gang of vampires-the Lost Boys, led by David-because his crush happens to be half undead. Leaving it to Sam and the Frog brothers to save his life, and the town from a vampire infestation, equipped with all the knowledge comic books can provide. Just the usual kind of stuff that happens when your mum takes you to live with your granddad, really.

The show is being imagined as a 7 season long anthology series, as they’re the flavour of the month. Each season will take feature a new story set in a new decade and a new place with new human characters and antagonists. Only the Lost Boys themselves will remain the same.

Season 1 will be set in 1967 during the ‘Summer of Love’, with added blood. As the Lost Boys had the appearance of a rock star biker gang with punk haircuts in the 80s, in the 60s they’ll be psychedelic shirt wearing, Mystery Machine owning hippies hooked on LSD. As dictated by American culture, Shaggy and Scooby should at least get a cameo.

Success and a story spanning 70 years, all depend on whether the show can make vampires kind of cool again. After years of yearning for love over blood, turning sparkly in sunlight instead of to dust, and angst replacing charm. Vampires have been pretty ruined.

Can you stomach more damn vampires?

An airdate is yet to be announced.
