The comedy sequel proves to be a big hit after only one day of screenings.
Simon Bird, James Buckley, Joe Thomas and Blake Harrison, must be pretty happy with things in their life right now after their film has become another box office breaker. Â
THE INBETWEENERS 2 was only released yesterday and has already achieved record-breaking success, receiving the biggest ever opening day for a comedy at the UK box office.
The film bagged over £2.75million on Wednesday and managed to beat its own record from its prequel, THE INBETWEENERS MOVIE, which also achieved overwhelming box office takings when it was first released in 2011.
The sequel debuted in 495 venues across the country, and scored the third-highest Wednesday opening for any film after HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE and LORD OF THE RINGS: RETURN OF THE KING. Â
It seems that its not just fans of the cast, who first featured in The Inbetweeners on British TV channel E4 who love the movie, as it has opened to rave reviews. Well done, boys!
Having started life on television channel E4, The Inbetweeners 2 follows beloved quartet Will (Simon Bird), Jay (James Buckley), Simon (Joe Thomas) and Neil (Blake Harrison) as they reunite for a holiday in Australia.
Creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley said they had been caught off guard by the success of the first film, and “fan power” had persuaded them to make a sequel.
Unfortunately it seems that the popular TV series-come-movie will not become a trilogy after a third instalment was ruled out.
At the film’s London premiere on Tuesday evening, actor Simon Bird said:Â
“Once you see the film you’ll see it feels like they’ve all moved on with their lives, so unfortunately this is it. It’s a great way to say goodbye.  It would be nice to go out on top.”Â
Going out on top seems to definitely be the case for this popular quartet, with the movie expecting to take even more money over its opening weekend. Â
