There is another more pure, vivid and wild than a child’s imagination and there are few movies out there that really and truly whole-heartedly tap into that magical world. THE GOONIES is one of those films that is up there with ticking all of those boxes and takes both children and adults on an epic adventure that makes for an unforgettable experience.

For the cynics out there, the movie may appear rather far-fetched or impossible, but it was still the big fantasy movie that captured hearts and set imaginations alight back in 1985 when THE GOONIES was first released. Thirty years later, we are celebrating the fantastic feature flick with the a new home entertainment release entitled The Goonies: 30th Anniversary Collector’s Edition on Blu-ray celebrates the undying love that people have for the movie that never seems to age and it is packed with the most wonderful of features.

THE GOONIES tells the story of a group of friends who find their homes in danger due to the requirement of their land and properties of local rich developers who are determined to get their way. The spirited group of children will not go down without a fight, so they set off looking for pirate treasure.  Little do they know that they will end up being pursued by the evil Fratelli gang intent on stealing it from them.

The Goonies

THE GOONIES is still an iconic film 30-year-later which still attracts the praise of a young, new audience largely thanks to the perfect creative combination of ideas by Steven Spielberg who came up with the story and Chris Columbus who was the screenwriter for the film.

Richard Donner fulfilled his director duties perfectly, as he brought the story to life and the very best out of the talented, young cast. The film stars Sean Astin, Josh Brolin and Corey Feldman who have all gone on to achieve great professional success, but for died hard fans of THE GOONIES, they will always be the young, spirited children who enjoyed an epic adventure.

The Fratellis sees Anne Ramsey as Mama, with Robert Davi and Joe Pantoliano as her sons who are so entertaining as the villains of the film, but of course, there is one character who will always stand out amongst the rest: Sloth, played superbly by John Matuszak. He became the star of the film and the unexpected superhero of the movie who everybody loves.

The Goonies

I am of the age where I watched the film back in the late 80s and it’s a film that has always stayed with me. So of course, for those who already have a home edition of the film on DVD or Blu-ray and wondering why they should add the new THE GOONIES: 30TH ANNIVERSARY COLLECTOR’S EDITION to their collection, I can guarantee you it will certainly not disappoint.

The release includes some fantastic extra features such as the detailed commentary by director Richard Donner and cast members, a ‘Making Of The Goonies‘ featurette, and Cyndi Lauper‘s ‘The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough’ music video, as well as the soundtrack and theatrical trailer.

The deleted scenes alone are more than enough of a reason for fans to have the 30th anniversary collection of THE GOONIES as we get to see even more from the film for the first time.

For those who may have never seen it before, the film is a true gem. For those who loves their adventure classics such as INDIANA JONES and such like, this movie should definitely please and the quality on Blu-ray looks even better than ever before. THE GOONIES takes you from your sofa, brings you on an epic adventure and makes you want to be a Goonie too. This is the kid’s version of Indiana Jones, and no matter what your age it doesn’t treat you like an idiot, if anything it invites you to be a Goonie too.

THE GOONIES has and always will be a true classic. After watching this movie again and again, prepare yourselves to keep saying: “HEY YOU GUYS!”
