Flash

Ok first things first, I adore this show; I think it has the perfect mixture of comedy, drama, thriller and of course super heroes.

Every single episode of THE FLASH, I have been completely glued to my TV; it has been an amazing show with a truly amazing cast. Grant Gustin is an incredible Flash; he brings Barry Allen to life and has such an impressive range of emotions and skills to make him the perfect actor for this role.

To start the episode off, the introduction to the show is completely different to all the episodes previous, instead of showing previous clips it starts the episode straight away with Barry about to confront Wells, as he is locked in the tunnel. In true villain style Wells explains his reasons behind his evil ways and tells Barry he tried to kill him that night, but future Barry saved young Barry, so Wells decides to kill Barry’s mother Nora to cause Barry pain.

As I said before Gustin is amazing, his emotional range in this episode is phenomenal and as an audience member you feel the pain Barry is going through at this revelation that Gustin so brilliantly provides. Wells then stuns Barry by telling him that if he runs fast enough, within the Particle Accelerator, then he could create a worm hole that could send Barry back to save his mother and Wells forward to his own time. Stein and the time explain to Barry that he would have to collide with the accelerator at the right speed and has 1 minute and 52 seconds to save his mother and return, if not he could open a black hole that would cause a global catastrophe, therefore Barry has to make the decision as to whether to go back or not.

Barry struggles with this decision therefore he seeks advice from the important people in his life, Joe, Iris and his dad. As his dad tells him not to change the past, Joe tells him that he has the chance to save his mother and he should take it, while Iris tells Barry to follow his heart and make the decision for himself.

As Barry is making his decision Wells tells the team that a time machine needs to be build for him to return to his own time, as Cisco tries to build it he talks to Wells to get the correct calculations. Cisco tells Wells that he remembers the alternate reality where Wells kills him, Wells then informs Cisco that he was affected by the Particle Accelerator explosion and Cisco will accomplish great things. I am not a comic book fan therefore I do not know what is going to happen to Cisco or who he may become but this made me very excited for Carlos Valdas’ character. Valdas makes Cisco that guy that is so smart you are in awe of him but instead of making him pompous and rude he is warm and charming, making audiences fall in love with his character.

Flash2

After speaking to Professor Stein Eddie decides that regardless that Wells showed him Iris ends up with Barry he will not give her up without a fight and they’re relationship is worth fighting for, he goes to see her and they get back together. In the meantime Barry has come to the decision to go back and save his mother, as he talks to Joe they have a heart to heart as Barry tells Joe that although he lost his mother he gained another father and that he will always love him and Iris.

Love is all around this episode as Caitlin and Ronnie get married outside Star Labs before Barry goes into the tunnel. As he is about to go Barry says his goodbyes to everyone and jumps into the tunnel, as he gains speed he starts to see flashes of his past, present and future, Wells tells him to focus on where he wants to go. Barry opens the worm hole and lands in his old bedroom; as he goes to the door to the living room he sees everything again he is about to go in and help when future him shakes his head and tells him to stay hidden. As future him saves young Barry, Wells stabs Barry’s mother and leaves, Barry comes out dressed as The Flash with his mask up but decides his wants his mother to see him, he holds her as she dies and she tells him she loves him.

As the team await Barry’s return Cisco and Ronnie prepare for Dr Wells to leave in the time machine as they wait a helmet is flung from the wormhole onto the floor. Comic book fans will know this helmet as the headpiece of Jay Garrick, the very first Flash who appeared in 1940.

THE FLASH sets up DC’s multiverse, although Garrick’s Flash was first, Barry Allen’s Flash inhabits Earth One, while Garrick inhabits Earth Two. This is really exciting as this one shot could set up numerous crossovers into different universes to allow the arrival of new and old heroes and villains. As Wells is about to go Barry launches through the wormhole and smashes the time machine. As the wormhole begins to collapse Caitlin and Ronnie turn off the generators while Barry and Wells fight.

Flash3

As Wells is about to kill Barry you hear a gunshot and it shows Eddie holding a gun to his chest. Joe and Iris run to help Eddie and Wells starts to turn back into Eobard Thawne, Eddie dies in Iris’ arms as Wells/Thawne evaporates out of existence. The black hole opens and begins to consume debris and Eddie’s body. As the team run out of Star Labs to see the black hole opening above Central City, the camera shoots to Captain Cold and Hawkgirl, setting up for the new TV show LEGENDS OF TOMORROW. The episode ends with Barry running up broken in half buildings and debris to get to the black hole.

I am super excited (see what I did there?), for the next season and what will happen. Tom Cavanagh created such an iconic character with Harrison Wells and was an excellent Reverse Flash; honestly I am quite sad to see him go.

In the next season I am looking forward to new villains, the possibility of Barry and Iris being set up and hopefully some more crossovers between THE FLASH and ARROW.
