The first trailer for Thomas McCarthy’s upcoming real life drama SPOTLIGHT has just arrived.

Based on the true life story of The Boston Globes “Spotlight” team, the oldest continuously operating newspaper investigative unit in the United States, who in 2002 uncovered the level of corruption and dishonesty within the Roman Catholic church, famously exposing powerful members within the Boston branch of the church as child sex offenders. Their actions helped former victims of religious child sex abuse from around the world to come forward and tell their stories.

Thomas McCarthy’s previous work has included, critically praised, indie flicks THE STATION AGENT, THE VISITOR and WIN WIN. McCarthy has also served as a writer on various projects such as Disney Pixars UP and last year’s baseball drama MILLION DOLLAR ARM.

The film will play at the 72nd Venice International Film Festival and at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival.
