Scoop Films has announced that its new feature The Beat Beneath My Feet has secured a theatrical release.

The Beat Beneath My Feet

THE BEAT BENEATH MY FEET, which stars former Beverly Hills 90210 heartthrob Luke Perry, has formalised a wider release for the film comes after its triumphant opening screening at London’s Raindance Film Festival last week, which received rave reviews from a sell-out crowd at the Vue cinema in Piccadilly.

THE BEAT BENEATH MY FEET is a deeply moving comedy drama set in London which also stars Lisa Dillon and newcomer Nicholas Galitzine.

The film had its official in-festival premiere at the same cinema on 4th October. Following the announcement that the film is getting closer to a broader commercial release, Luke Perry said: “The movie turned out great and I’m so pleased and proud of the team at Scoop Films, the Director, John Williams and all the crew for their great achievement.”

The story is based on Tom (Galitzine), a teenage loner with dreams of becoming a rock star, but he is thwarted by his God-fearing single mother, Mary (Lisa Dillon). Nick’s life takes a dramatic turn when an intimidating stranger moves into the flat below and plays loud rock music throughout the night.

Tom recognises his new neighbour (Luke Perry) as Max Stone, a disgraced American guitarist who disappeared years earlier owing a fortune in unpaid tax and has been presumed dead. Tom agrees not to reveal Max to the authorities on condition that he teaches him the dark arts of rock guitar. As their relationship develops, Tom learns that there is a price to pay for living your dreams. The film explores a number of complex themes: the relationship between teenagers and their parents, self-harming, school bullying, as well as the confusing joy of first love. Ultimately, the film reveals that you can only conquer your demons by finding the courage to face them down.

Producer Fiona Gillies added: “We’re so thankful to Raindance and Picturehouse for all the support they have shown the film and are loving the comments we’re getting from people who were at the screening. We look forward to bringing The Beat Beneath My Feet to the film-going public.”

Scoop Films also announced that it is crowd funding the next stage of the film’s distribution journey by partnering with innovative London startup CrowdShed. New finance will fund a marketing and distribution campaign to take the film to as wide an audience as possible.

THE BEAT BENEATH MY FEET is the debut feature directed by John Williams (Hibernation, Paraphernalia) and was shot entirely on location in South London in 2013.

The film will be screened at Clapham Picturehouse on 9th November and further screening dates will be confirmed soon.
