Taron Egerton Robin Hood

After this year’s breakout role as Eggsy, the thug with the heart of gold, in this years surprise hit KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE it’s no wonder that Taron Egerton has become a hot commodity within the industry, with studios eager to book the up and coming star to be in one of their pictures.

It looks as if the 25-year-old British star is in early talks with production company Lionsgate to star in a new big screen adaptation of Robin Hood, entitled ROBIN HOOD: ORIGINS.

ROBIN HOOD: ORIGINS will be (surprise, surprise) an origin story about the green tight-wearing hero of Sherwood Forest and Nottingham.

According to Deadline, ROBIN HOOD: ORIGINS tells the story of a young Robin Hood returning from the crusades, only to find his home (Sherwood Forest) has become a cesspool of crime, dishonour and corrupt kings and officials. Leading Robin to pick up his bow and arrows, taking action to tackle the evil and save his home.

Lionsgate are reportedly looking to create a gritty and realistic tone for this reboot channeling Christopher Nolan’s, THE DARK KNIGHT as inspiration.

At this point it’s important to emphasise the fact that the actor is only in early talks with Lionsgate meaning that nothing is official, however it would seem that Egerton would be a perfect fit for the character of Robin Hood. The actor has proven that he’s capable of being dashing while also having a cheeky charm about him, all the while being tough and capable of an action filled role.

Already attached to the project is screenwriter Joby Harold, who has just completed his script for Guy Ritchie’s upcoming King Arthur adaptation, KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND TABLE.

Set to direct the project will be Otto Bathurst, who is known primarily as a TV director with outstanding work on BLACK MIRROR and PEAKY BLINDERS. ROBIN HOOD: ORIGINS will be his first venture into big budget feature film direction.

Taron Egerton can been seen next in Tom Hardy‘s LEGEND and then next year in the EDDIE THE EAGLE biopic which also stars Hugh Jackman.
