So Sunday night’s Sherlock Holmes episode, The Sign of Three, was all about John Watson’s wedding to bride Mary Morstan, (featuring Martin Freeman’s real-life partner, Amanda Abbington), and Sherlock’s role as the Best Man.  The show just keeps getting better and better, as the infamous detective faced his toughest assignment to date – fulfilling his duties as Best Man and attempting to live up to the role by delivering an epic speech to the wedding party.

Benedict Cumberbatch commands the screen for half of the story as he delivers one of the longest best man speeches known to man!  Sherlock’s words at some points are typically ‘Sherlocked’ but there are moments that deliver the ‘aww factor,’ particularly during the flashbacks when Doctor Watson asks his best friend to be his best man, much to the shock of Sherlock.

The most comical flashback moment involves the stag night, featuring a drunken Sherlock and Watson, who are so intoxicated, that they lose the ability to solve an intriguing case.

Despite the romcom feel to the episode, the wedding reception requires the detective to stave off a captivating murder mystery.  Of course, no day is a normal one for Sherlock and it seems that something perilous was set to ruin the celebrations and prevent the newlyweds from having their first dance.

Sherlock must  be polite, deliver a speech, solve the case and stop a killer – all at his best friend’s wedding!

If the episode leaves you craving for more, take a look at Martin Freeman and Amanda Abbington’s thoughts on their relationship:
