Sam Mendes

It looks as though we will be saying goodbye to Sam Mendes’ directional eye on the Bond franchise, as the director has confirmed he will not be helming anymore movies featuring 007 and he has now said goodbye to James Bond.

Appearing at the Hay Literary Festival, the Oscar-winning director confirmed that he won’t be returning for the next ‘Bond’ movie.

“It was an incredible adventure, I loved every second of it,” he said according to The Guardian. “But I think it’s time for somebody else.”

It will be a disappointment for those who have been fans of the movies since he began calling the shots back in 2012 with SKYFALL, which was Daniel Craig’s third instalment as the iconic British intelligence agent.

SKYFALL proved to be such a huge box office hit with both fans and critics, but SPECTRE didn’t quite live up the hype that was expected.

Mendes has now revealed his desire to work new projects after making his mark on the 007 franchise and is looking forward to putting his expertise to good use elsewhere.

“I’m a storyteller,” he explained. “And, at the end of the day, I want to make stories with new characters.”

The one thing that is really exciting is his vision and hopes for future Bond movies after he discussed how he hoped that the new director takes Bond in an ‘unexpected direction’. We are certainly hoping that is the case – especially if somebody completely unexpected took on the iconic role and dispatched all rumours of popular names already mentioned taking on the role such as Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Tom Hardy etc. Not that they wouldn’t do a great job, but the unexpected is certainly more exciting…

Despite all of the speculation, what thing that is for certain is that whoever lands the role will not be working with Sam Mendes.

Who would you like to see in the director’s chair for the next movie? Who would you like to play Bond? Share your thoughts in the comment box below.
