Ryan Gosling returned to host SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE this weekend for the comedy show’s 43rd season premiere. His opening monologue focused on LA LA LAND with repetitive quips about how he “saved jazz”, pretend piano playing, and a brief appearance from Emma Stone.

The BLADE RUNNER 2049 actor struggled to keep a straight face during most of the sketches, including when Kate McKinnon put her face in his bum (no, really) and Aidy Bryant couldn’t quite grab his gun because she was dressed as a chicken. But it was a film trailer titled “Papyrus” which stole the show.

Gosling is Steven, a married man who one night awakes to an obsession which he thought he’d put behind him years ago, that being the font used for James Cameron’s 2009 blockbuster AVATAR. “He just highlighted Avatar, he clicked the dropdown menu and then he just randomly selected papyrus,” he explains to his therapist, SNL’s Kate McKinnon.
