Ricky Gervais

Hold on to your seats, Ricky Gervais will be the hostess with the mostess as he is set to return as host of the Golden Globes, it’s been confirmed.

He did once declare that he would never host the awards show again, after two controversial stints in 2011 and 2012, but time is obviously a great healer, as it has now been confirmed that he will be back on the podium for the 2016 ceremony.

Amy Poehler and Tina Fey have helmed the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s awards show for the last three years, to huge acclaim, so Mr Gervais will have big boots to fill.

Famously, the HFPA president Phillip Berk said after Gervais’s inaugural performance that he’d ‘crossed the line’ with a number of his jokes, which took no prisoners as far as movie star egos were concerned.

Yesterday, Gervais tweeted: “It’s a good job I’m drunk. Otherwise the thought of hosting The Golden Globes again would seem like a real pain in the arse.”

He later added: “Now I want Donald Trump to stop saying things until the day before The Golden Globes.”

Ricky Gervais

“Ricky Gervais left us with a lasting impression and we are thrilled to have him back in our show as we honor the best in film and television,” said Lorenzo Soria, President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

“His off-the-cuff wit and quirky charm will surely have the room and audiences around the world at the edge of their seats.”

“What will he say? What will he do? We can’t wait to find out, and we are so happy that he’s back!” added the show’s producer Barry Adelman.

Well, we don’t have long to wait, as the awards season draws ever closer. The ceremony takes place in Los Angeles on January 10th, 2016.
