As a writer it’s easy to say that a director is ‘fresh off’ their previous project, but when you’re talking about Richard Linklater and his Oscar nominated masterpiece BOYHOOD, a film that took just over twelve years to complete, then the statement ‘fresh off’ seems more forced and redundant than it already does.

Richard Linklater isn’t one to lounge around and wait for work to come his way, as the director is already hard at work on a baseball drama, EVERYBODY WANTS SOME, which is set for an April 2016 release date. Now news comes that Sony Pictures are eyeing Linklater to direct their upcoming romantic comedy, THE ROSIE PROJECT.

Based on the book by Graeme Simison, THE ROSIE PROJECT tells the story of a genetics experiment Don Tillman, who, after a string of unsuccessful dates and romantic failures, designs a questionnaire to help him find his ideal partner. This is until he meets Rosie, a down in her luck bartender, who is looking to find her biological father. Although Rosie doesn’t match any of Don’s criteria for a partner, the two are drawn together as they try to find Rosie’s father.

Jennifer Lawrence is already attached to the project and will play Rosie, but as the film is still in early stages of production there is no news as to who will be cast in the role of Don.

The book was a big hit in both the UK and Australia, where the book is set, and a sequel entitled The Rosie Effect was published in 2014.

If Linklater was to accept, he will be replacing the previously announced directors of Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who had to leave the project due to their involvement in the upcoming HAN SOLO spin-off movie for Disney.

Screenwriters Scott Neustadter and Michael H.Weber (THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, THE SPECTACULAR NOW and (500 DAYS OF SUMMER) have reportedly written the new draft of the film.
