Zoolander

Can you believe that it’s almost been 15 years since Ben Stiller’s comedy masterpiece ZOOLANDER was released? Fans, including myself, have been clamouring for a sequel ever since its release back in 2001.

Really REALLY ridiculously good sounding cries of joy could be heard worldwide yesterday as the first teaser trailer for Zoolander 2 was released via Paramount Pictures official YouTube channel, and its just as wonderfully dumb as the first ZOOLANDER.

As we get a tour through the mind of Derek Zoolander, we are treated to a slue of old jokes from the previous movie (1+4=14, E= MC Hammer, the definition of the world Eugoogly, and a reminder of Derek’s crippling condition to not be able to turn left) all the while being narrated by a, Stephen Hawking-esque, electronic voice over.

That is until Derek asks the greatest philosophical question of our time, “If God exists, why did he create ugly people?”

Many fans were left concerned, stating that “What is this? A trailer for ants?” due to the trailers short running time. However this only serves as a teaser trailer for the film, which has only recently finished production in Rome, as no footage from the actual film can be seen.

Ben Stiller has reassembled the majority of the cast from the previous film, including Owen Wilson as Hansel McDonald (we hear he’s so hot right now) Christine Taylor as Matilda Jeffries and Will Ferrell as Jacobim Mugatu the villain from the original ZOOLANDER. Stiller has also recruited some new faces for the sequel, Penélope Cruz, Kristen Wiig, Billy Zane, Fred Armisen, Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber and Kim Kardashian.

The original ZOOLANDER was a sleeper hit back in 2001, receiving critical praise for its satire of celebrity culture and the absurdity of the fashion industry, it has also developed a strong cult following thanks to DVD sales. It is often viewed as one of the funniest films of all time.

Zoolander 2 will be released worldwide on the 12th of February 2016.
