Jason and the Argonauts

The ‘epic story that was destined to stand as a colossus adventure’ will sail once again.

The Greek myth, JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS chronicles Jason’s quest to locate and retrieve the Golden Fleece to prove to King Pelias of Iolcus, that he is the rightful heir to the throne. He sets sail on the Argo, alongside other various Greek heroes he’s recruited to accompany him. They must all drink at the same bar. The crew encounter: killer spinsters, six-armed giants, and Smaug’s great-great-great granddaddy. Mission accomplished. The Argo runs into more trouble on the return journey, and Medea-the love of Jason’s life-turns out to be a psychotic witch. Tinder, he really should have swiped left.

In 1963, the story appeared on the big screen directed by Don Chaffey and Ray Harryhausen. The movie delves into the mythical world, having various gods aid the crew-especially Hera-and pitting them against: a stone giant, Harpies, the Hydra, and sword wielding skeletons ecstatic that they finally had somebody to party with.

Not all bodes well for a remake of the-what many would call-‘classic’ movie, as previous recent adaptations of Greek myths/remakes-of-older-movies-based-on-Greek-myths have been cursed. Last year’s two Hercules movies failed to excite, being filled with stilted, wooden acting of the ‘can’t be arsed’ style.2010’s Clash of the Titans and its sequel Wrath of the Titans proved to be dark, gloomy messes complete with: video game graphics and actors just wanting to take away a massive cheque.

The JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS of the 21st Century, will likely follow in the wake of its predecessors and be a joyless flop. A movie following a group of gym buff, spray tanned Hipsters with perfectly sculpted facial hair hostinging a toga party would prove to be a bigger hit.

The script will be penned by Christopher Hollier, a co-executive producer of The Originals and Alias and Elementary scribe. Susan Landau will produce.

  1. Stone giant?!?! Try again! It was Talos from the Isle of Bronze! That aside, you have no idea what the movie will be like and how it will be orchestrated; give it a chance. I do agree with you, however, in the fact that Clash of the Titans (2010) was a huge flop and extremely disappointing! I shall stick with the originals for now.
