Pacific Rim

PACIFIC RIM 2 looks as though it will be a non-starter – the chance of a sequel looks slim…

Back in 2013, PACIFIC RIM blew audiences away when visionary director, Guillermo Del Toro, took on this story of monstrous sea creatures and a battle for man kind with as much commitment and finesse as you’d expect. Knock out special effects and it boasted great performances from Charlie Hunnam and Idris Elba.

So it was no surprise then, that a sequel was in the pipeline, especially considering the movie took in over three times its international growth as it did its domestic.

However, it seems that the sequel is no more. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the follow-up to director Guillermo Del Toro’s monsters-versus-robots epic is “off the table indefinitely” – and in its place, Del Toro has entered talks with 20th Century Fox to helm a different sci-fi project.

Reports state that Del Toro might be calling the shots on FANTASTIC VOYAGE, a remake of the 1966 sci-fi classic which starred Raquel Welch and Donald Pleasance as members of a team who are miniaturized in a submarine and injected into the body of a dying scientist in order to save his life.

James Cameron will be on producer duties and the script is to be co-written by David Goyer and Justin Rhodes.

As of yet, no further information has been revealed about the cast and release date for FANTASTIC VOYAGE.
