La La Land leads the pack with 14 nods at the Oscars

The wait is over! The Oscar nominations are out and it is clear that the voters have shown their love for the musical LA LA LAND with 14 nominations on Tuesday, a tie with “Titanic” and “All About Eve” for the most in Academy Award history.

The film’s leads, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone are up for best actor and actress awards respectively for their roles in the modern musical romance and the movie has also received a nod as one of nine films up for the best picture award.

Sci-fi film ARRIVAL and coming-of-age drama MOONLIGHT are tied with eight nominations a-piece, with MOONLIGHT also landing a best supporting actress nod for Britain’s Naomie Harris.

Followed closely behind them is HACKSAW RIDGE, LION and MANCHESTER BY THE SEA who have all come up trumps with six nominations each.

There are no real big surprises to see who has been nominated, aside from maybe Amy Adams, who hasn’t been recognised for her role in ARRIVAL.

It is good to see that this year, the Oscar’s have shown more diversity after last year’s #OscarsSoWhite controversy with diverse films like MOONLIGHT, FENCES and HIDDEN FIGURES in the best picture race.

US comedian and talk show host Jimmy Kimmel will host this year’s Oscar ceremony on February 26th.
