A new animation for DreamWorks is set to be in the making and director Jason Reitman is the man who will be calling the shots for new film BEEKLE.

The man who brought LABOR DAY and JUNO to the big screen will take charge of an adaptation of Dan Santat’s ‘The Adventures Of Beekle: The Unimaginary Friend’, which is about an imaginary friend who looks for a child to befriend.

The idea for the film adaptation of the book came about when Reitman found the book while shopping one day and thought it would be a great movie:

I was book shopping with my daughter, when a little tooth-shaped character in a paper crown stole our hearts,” he recalls. “His name was Beekle, and I’m honoured to now be adapting Santat’s charming story into a feature film. I’m particularly proud to be working with DreamWorks Animation, makers of ‘Kung Fu Panda’, the first film my daughter ever saw on the big screen.

For the moment, there has been no confirmation of when the film will hit cinemas, but production is expected to commence in the coming months.
