SpongeBob Blu Ray

So summer seems to have disappeared (what happened to that sun we had in June?). When the weather is as terrible as it has been, there’s no better time to catch up on your home viewing pleasure. Not sure what to watch? Then check out our brief (it is the middle of summer) guide to the best home releases in the month of August.

 Insurgent

Released 3rd of August

Blu Ray / DVD

insurgent

Based on the novels by Veronica Roth, Insurgent is the sequel to last years teen dystopian flick, Divergent and the second within the film series.

Following up from Divergent, Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) are on the run from the powerful and dangerous Erudites, led by the psychotically determined Jeanine (Kate Winslet). As they search for answers, they must figure out what Tris’s family sacrificed themselves to protect, unraveling secrets that could destroy the very fabric of their world.

Building upon what made the first film a firm favourite with fans, Insurgent ups the action and will certainly fill a hole for those waiting for their final Hunger Games fix as they wait for the release later this year.

SpongeBob Squarepants: Sponge Out Of Water

Released 3rd of August

Blu Ray / DVD

Spongebob

Definitely one of the most surreal cinema going experiences of the year. Anyone who has already seen ‘SpongeBob Squarepants: Sponge Out Of Water’ will confirm that it is just as crazy and manic as the beloved Nickelodeon television show that it’s based off.

When a Diabolical Pirate, named Burger-Beard (Antonio Banderas) kidnaps the heavily guarded Krabby Patty formula, Spongebob and his nemesis Plankton must team up and go on a strange adventure to save their way of life.

Featuring time travel, magical talking dolphins, alternative realities and superhero alter-egos, SpongeBobSquarepants: Sponge Out Of Water is a joy for adults and kids alike, albeit a very bizarre and mind-bogglingly weird one. Don’t believe me? Pick it up and find out.

Cinderella

Released 24th of August

Blu Ray / DVD

Cinderella

One of this year’s runaway success stories, Disney’s Cinderella, is a lavishly designed and shot live action fairy tale from the company that has truly mastered the art form.

Directed by Sir. Kenneth Branagh, Cinderella is a classic adaptation of the fairytale we all know and love.

After her father dies, Young Ella (Lily James) Finds herself at the mercy of her cruel stepmother (wickedly played by Cate Blanchett) and her step-sisters, who humiliate her and reduce her to a scullery maid. With help from her Fairy Godmother she is able to attend a royal ball and meet the love of her life.

Magic and whimsy are in no short supply in this very traditional adaptation of a fairytale we all know. I can guarantee this will look gorgeous on Blu Ray.

For all you Frozen fans out there, the disc will also include the ‘Frozen Fever’ short film that featured before Cinderella in cinemas.

The Falling

Released 24th of August

Blu Ray / DVD

the falling

For those looking to escape the summer movie season with its explosive blockbusters and busy popcorn-munching crowd, The Falling is a perfect stay at home antidote.

Set in 1969 at a strict all girls school in rural England. Two young girls, Lydia (Maisie Williams) and Abbie, are best friends and are enjoying their carefree lifestyle together. As Abbie starts to explore her sexuality, a tragedy takes place at the school and Lydia suffers from a continuous fainting spell, which soon escalates into a school wide epidemic, threatening the stability of everyone involved, pupils and teachers alike.

Are the mass fainting spells supernatural? Otherworldly? Or are the girls all playing an elaborate prank on the teacher to get revenge? You’ll have to watch The Falling to find out.
