Tales and stories of the Three Musketeers have fascinated and entertained audiences from the small screen and silver screen for years, along with many of the exploits told through literature and now on Sunday 19th January, the BBC will broadcasting their latest drama reincarnating the characters in The Musketeers.

The retelling of the classic adventure tale by Alexandre Dumas features some well known faces including SKINS actor Luke Pasqualino who stars as D’Artagnan, the young swordsman who unties with King Louis’s bodyguard in 17th century Paris to end the reign of the sinister Cardinal Richelieu played by DOCTOR WHO’s Peter Capaldi.

The other musketeers include Santiago Cabrera (MERLIN) plays Aramis, Tom Burke as Athos and Howard Charles as Portho, whilst Hugo Speer takes on the role of Captain Treville.

The show seems to be pulling out all of the stops to pull in the viewers in what looks to be a ratings war against ITV’s Mr. Selfridge, as the swashbucklers look set to be part of one of this year’s biggest productions, with the adventures spreading across 10 episodes.  Will it be as successful as Sherlock Holmes for the BBC, who knows which has been incredibly popular in the UK and internationally?  Either way, the series is set to offer drama, action, romance and eye-catching stunts creating a movie-style feeling, which looks set to keep the viewers hooked during the ten hours of the show.

The show launches on Sunday at 9pm on BBC One. Let’s hope the series is as exciting as the trailer:

What are your thoughts of the adaptation of the popular novel?  Will you be tuning in?
