BATMAN: THE KILLING JOKE is the film Batman fans have been waiting a long time to see. From the trailer we can see it brandishes a curious retro artisan animation style, paying tribute to Alan Moore’s legendary graphic novel it is based on. I feel that you are either going to love the nostalgic retro re-creation this style of animation exudes or are going to lament its clunkiness.
Whilst I personally lean towards the latter (for now) the fact that Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill reprise their iconic vocal performances as Batman and the Joker is a massive win. You can hear Hamill’s Joker voice has yet again been tweaked and perfectly matches this particular version of the Joker. It is the voice you would have imagined when first reading the graphic novel.
BATMAN: THE KILLING JOKE could go either way at this point but with Bruce Timm at the helm I’m sure it will be stunning.
The film is set to be released direct-to-video in July.
