The National Television Awards have been announced – and you may not be surprised to see the names, which have been nominated for the NTAs 2016.
Dermot O’Leary returns to host the awards show that does away with stuffy critics and turns over the choices to the Great British public.
Of course DOWNTON ABBEY was always going to make the list after the dearly-loved series bowed out so gracefully on New Year’s Day. The TV series has been nominated for the best drama prize at this year’s National Television Awards. The ITV saga, which has won three times in the last four years, is up against DOCTOR WHO, BROADCHURCH and CASUALTY.
Other big TV hits to be given a nod of recognition is POLDARK (no surprises there either!), DOCTOR FOSTER, ORDINARY LIES and HUMANS, which will compete in a new category for best new drama series.
Will the awards ceremony be nominated by the loveable Ant & Dec? Most likely! The SATURDAY NIGHT TAKEAWAY presenters and I’M A CELEBRITY GET ME OUT OF HERE! presenters have been voted most popular entertainment presenters for 14 years in a row – and are nominated again.
The entertainment presenter category has been changed to most popular TV presenter this year, and the Geordie duo will be up against Graham Norton, Mel and Sue and Rylan Clark.
POLDARK’s Aidan Turner is up for the drama performance vote, but will face stiff competition from David Tennant for BROADCHURCH, DOCTOR FOSTER’s Suranne Jones and last year’s winner Sheridan Smith for BLACK WORK.
In the challenge show category, last year’s most-watched programme THE GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF will face off against THE APPRENTICE, MASTERCHEF and BEAR GRYLLS: MISSION SURVIVE.
Viewers can vote now for their favourites on the National Television Awards website, with the winners to be announced at the O2 Arena in London on January 20th, 2016. The ceremony will be broadcast LIVE and will air on ITV from 7.30pm.
