My Best Friend's Wedding

It seems the trend to continue turning feature films into a TV series is set to continue, as we can now add Julia Roberts’ 1997 romantic comedy MY BEST FRIEND’S WEDDING to the list.

There’s no denying that MY BEST FRIEND’S WEDDING has all the elements for a fantastic TV series: unrequited love, great musical numbers and an ending that is somewhat unexpected and rejects the fairytale ending for the leading lady in the movie.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that the network has ordered a script from the movie’s original writer Ron Bass and Jessica Amento to be produced as a single-camera half-hour comedy. This modern update won’t necessarily be a reboot, but will be created along the lines of a sequel.

The series is set to pick up where we last left Roberts’ character Julianne Potter, a restaurant critic with a rocky romantic track record, who lives in New York City with her friend and sometimes fiancé George (Rupert Everett).

My Best Friend's Wedding

It is easy to imagine that MY BEST FRIEND’S WEDDING will prove to be popular viewing with the right script and entertaining cast on board and we look forward to hearing who has bagged those roles for the TV series.

MY BEST FRIEND’S WEDDING will be joining the likes of LETHAL WEAPON, TRAINING DAY, NANCY DREW, THE NOTEBOOK and FRIDAY THE 13TH in the film-to-TV list of adaptations ahead.
