Michael Shannon

Kneel before Zod….Again?

Comicbook.com reports that Zod (Michael Shannon) will return to haunt Henry Cavill’s Superman – after he was last seen having his neck snapped by the hero – for at least a few seconds of BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE. The extent of the character’s role is unrevealed, with the write-up speculating that Zod may only appear as a corpse in the hands of Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor.

This theory isn’t new, fans have wondered whether there would be a direct link to MAN OF STEEL ever since the movie was first announced. Some assuming that Zod’s Kryptonian armour would become the onscreen incarnation of Luthor’s (very fashionable) purple and green battle suit.

According to the new rumour, this is not the case!

It is reported that Luthor will experiment on Zod’s body in an attempt to discover Superman’s weakness and ‘trigger the Doomsday genome’, allowing Zod to become the appropriately named …Doomsday! A character who made his full debuted in ‘Superman: The Man of Steel #18’ by writer-artist Dan Jurgens, and became well known for killing Superman (who didn’t stay dead for too long). Since then the character has failed to live-up to the epic nature of his debut and is recognisable to fans as one-of-those-ideas-better-left-in-the-90s.

At the moment this is merely fun speculation and Shannon may actually be appearing as Zombie Zod or Vampire Zod, providing an ingenious way for Warner Brothers to add Mystery Incorporated or the Ghostbusters to their expanding universe.
