There has been another casting addition to the expanding bunch of actors in Independence Day 2 – they have now found their female lead in Maika Monroe.
The IT FOLLOWS actress has signed up to play the love interest of Liam Hemsworth‘s character and is a woman of important status; she is the daughter of the President of the United States.
Her involvement has also been confirmed by Roland Emmerich, as he took to Twitter to announce the good news:
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Monroe auditioned for the role alongside a host of other actresses including Lucy Boynton, Merritt Patterson, Gabriella Wilde and Britt Robertson.
There’s not long to go until the project commences production; Joey King informed fans that the sequel would begin shooting very soon, after posting a picture of herself at an airport with Emmerich and two of the film’s producers.
INDEPENDENCE DAY 2 is slated for release in 2016, which will mark the 20th anniversary of the sci-fi blockbuster, a popular hit which starred Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum.
Goldblum is reprising the role of environmentalist David Levinson for the sequel, but unfortunately, we will not see Smith back on the big screen for the sequel.
INDEPENDENCE DAY 2 arrives in cinemas June 24th, 2016.
