Lena

Known for her hilarious and realistic playing of your typical 20-something, Lena Dunham is taking on a whole new task by writing, and maybe directing, ‘Catherine, Called Birdy’. An adaption of the original children’s novel by Katherine Cushman, set in Medieval England.

The story follows Catherine, a fourteen year old girl, trying to avoid marriage to an unattractive suitor. The book takes the form of Catherine’s personal journal, which she keeps to please her brother, who is a Monk.

Variety got the first scoop and told readers that Dunham announced the news herself, at the New Yorker Festival, where she joked; “I just need to find someone who wants to fund a PG-13 medieval movie”. With her talent though, we don’t think she’ll have that much of a problem.

Jenni Konner, producer of Dunham’s comedy Girls, will assist in the production of Catherine, Called Birdy, so you know we’re in for a treat!
