The Gods have finally been kind to us. Only two episodes into the new season of GAME OF THRONES, Melisandre uses her powers to resurrect Jon Snow (or does she?) – we’ll just ignore the fact that she cut his beautiful hair. But let’s not celebrate too soon until we see him fully functioning next week.

Called into action by Ser Davos, Melisandre washes Snow’s body clean, revealing the extent of his wounds. As she lays her hands upon his body and prays to the Lord of Light, all seems lost as she gets no reaction from him. Leaving Snow alone with Ghost, the camera hovers over him for a few moments before he opens his eyes, letting out a gasp.

Following Snow’s shock death in the Season 5 finale – another fan favourite to come to his untimely end – the cast and crew of Game of Thrones have kept up the pretence that he was gone for good. But we weren’t convinced (or just desperately in denial). Conspiracy theories flocked in, with one focusing on Kit Harington still sporting Snow’s trademark mane – In 2014 he told The Independent that he’s contractually obliged to keep his hair long for the duration of the show.

Harington has spoken tirelessly in interviews about the fate of his character, reiterating that Snow would not be returning, but now the secret is out. In a video chat with Entertainment Weekly, he said;

I’d like to say sorry for lying to everyone. I’m glad that people were upset that he died. I think my biggest fear was that people were not going to care. Or it would just be, ‘Fine, Jon Snow’s dead.’ But it seems like people had a, similar to the Red Wedding episode, kind of grief about it. Which means something I’m doing — or the show is doing — is right.”

Is Jon Snow’s return too good to be true? I mean, this is Game of Thrones after all. I will say one thing, though, if Melisandre did bring Snow back, is there any chance of resurrecting Robb too?

GAME OF THRONES continues Monday at 2am and again at 9pm on Sky Atlantic
