Jake Gyllenhaal’s upcoming movie will start production in April.
Bold Films has come on board to produce and fully finance STRONGER, a Boston Marathon Bombing feature project starring Jake Gyllenhaal.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gyllenhaal will be on double duties as not only will the actor be starring in the movie, but he will also be on producing duties as well. Now having Bold Films on board, the company behind Gyllenhaal’s other hit movie, NIGHTCRAWLER will have a first look deal. STRONGER will also be the first film under Nine Stories, Gyllenhaal’s production company, which he co-runs with partner Riva Marker.
Lionsgate, which was previously financing, remains on board as domestic and international distributor.
David Gordon Green is in the director’s chair for this one, which is scheduled to begin filming from April 4th.
STRONGER tells the harrowing true story of Jeff Bauman, whose book has been adapted. He is a survivor of the Boston Marathon bombing who lost both his legs in the 2013 attack, whilst waiting for his girlfriend at the finish line of the annual marathon when two pressure cooker bombs exploded, killing three people and injuring more than 260 others.
Gyllenhaal is taking on the role of Bauman in the movie alongside ORPHAN BLACK’s Tatiana Maslany who will play his girlfriend.
John Pollono wrote the script for the project, which was developed by Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman of Mandeville Films.
“Riva and I started Nine Stories just a few months ago to support and create projects like STRONGER,” said Gyllenhaal in a statement. “We are extraordinarily excited to bring this inspiring story of love and the human spirit to the big screen.”
Marker, Peter McGuigan, Anthony Mattero, Gary Michael Walters will exec produce the movie.
It is certainly going to be an emotional one, which will no doubt touch the hearts of many.
