The former Skins star plays a British squaddie trapped behind enemy lines in the film drama set in 1971.

Jack O'Connell

Former SKINS and THIS IS ENGLAND star Jack O’Connell is quickly making a name for himself as one of Britain’s best young actors and judging by the latest reviews of ’71 after its successful release at the London Film Festival, the movie looks set to propel the actor into further notoriety.

Based on a screen play by acclaimed writer Gregory Burke (Black Watch ),O’Connell plays Private Gary Hook, a young British soldier accidentally abandoned by his unit following a riot on the streets of Belfast in 1971. Unable to tell friend from foe, and increasingly wary of his own comrades, he must survive the night alone and find his way to safety through a disorientating, alien and deadly landscape.

The film is a feature directorial debut of Yann Demange’s critically acclaimed hit, which also stars Sam Reid, Sean Harris (Macbeth, Deliver us from Evil), Charlie Murphy (Philomena),Killian Scott (Calvary, Good Vibrations), Martin McCann (X Plus Y, Killing Bono) and Paul Anderson.

With so many tense scenes throughout the film, the clip below and the movie survival infographic offers a real eyeopener into the harrowing expeditions of the soldier.
