There’s no denying that the book and film character, James Bond is one of the most coveted roles for any actor to play, but for some, there is too much talk and speculation surrounding who will be the next iconic spy and for Idris Elba, he is done with discussing the possibility.
Daniel Craig may or may not be reprising his role as Bond, but regardless of his final decision, for some time now there has been a whole host of names thrown into the James Bond mix as to who will be the next to don the suit and become 007. Idris Elba’s name is one that is often put out there, with many rallying for him to take on the role next, but Elba has told the Telegraph, in a recent interview, that he doesn’t want to discuss the matter anymore.
“…it feels like I’m campaigning, and I’m not. At first it was harmless – oh, I know, wouldn’t it be great? – and now it’s started off racial debates.
“I’m probably the most famous Bond actor in the world, and I’ve not even played the role. Enough is enough. I can’t talk about it any more.”
The British actor has topped the bookies list for a while now as Craig’s replacement, alongside other well known actors including Tom Hardy and Damian Lewis.
Despite Elba’s protestations at continually answering questions on the subject matter, we doubt that will stop questions arising still in the future.
