It was great to see popular soap, HOLLYOAKS, take the prize for Best British Soap at this year’s British Soap Awards after it topped the nominations list with 20 nods. The soap has provided us viewers with endless tears, joy, shock, happiness, heartache and intrigue over the last few years and finally their handwork was celebrated when they scooped the coveted prize.
Also at the awards, despite the high recognition going to the Channel 4 soap, CORONATION STREET didn’t fair too badly either, with the departure of Julie Hesmondhalgh from Coronation Street helping to scoop many prizes at London’s Hackney Empire. Among the prizes for Hayley’s death were Best Actress for Hesmondhalgh herself, Best Actor for screen husband David Neilson (who plays Roy Cropper) and recognition for Storyline and Single Episode.
