Good news for those of you who enjoyed the movie OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN – the sequel has now got a director and even more good news for you: if you are a fan of Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart and Morgan Freeman, they have also confirmed they are reprising their roles and we can’t wait!
Antoine Fuqua won’t be back to direct the OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN sequel, but his replacement appears to have been found in the form of Fredrik Bond. He is in negotiations to direct LONDON HAS FALLEN for Focus Features and Millennium Films with filming set to begin in October.
Much to our delight, Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart and Morgan Freeman are set to return with Christian Gudegast, Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt penning the script, which moves the action from the lawn of the White House to London, as you could probably work out by the title of the new movie.
The story follows the three main characters as they attend the funeral of the British prime minister. The trio is suddenly caught in the middle of plot to kill all the world leaders who are in attendance at the funeral. Nothing ever seems to be straightforward for Butler’s character Mike Banning, a former U.S. Army Ranger and Special Forces service member.
Butler is producing with Alan Siegel, Mark Gill and Matt O’Toole and will hope to build on the success of its first instalment which earned over $160 million against a $70 million production budget.
London Has Fallen is expected to be released in late 2015.
